Fine Homebuilding “Through the Lens” Features Boat House
The Fine Homebuilding blog, Through the Lens, features a boat house building
designed by Elizabeth Herrmann this month. Blogger and architectural photographer
Susan Teare features a photograph she took of the building (from a kayak!) and writes about its design and permitting.
The small structure was permitted due to the old age of the original structure it replaced. New boat houses are no longer permitted along Vermont’s lake shores. The tiny boathouse accommodates several kayaks and is accessible by water through an overhead door. A roof deck is featured on top. Details of the boat house are made to match those of its accompanying residence, the Cantilevered Lake House, also designed by EH.
