In Progess: Village Farmhouse

This new house was designed to sit at the edge of a Vermont village.  Perched on a steeply sloping hill near a busy road, it has a public presence on the high road side, with a private side to the rear.  The house’s exterior is traditional in many respects and honors the local vernacular, complete with white clapboards and slate roof.  The interior will be more contemporary with open spaces, simple, light finishes and very little fuss.  There are many opportunities for enjoying the outdoors–covered and screen porch, doors leading to patio and lower level gardens, and a trellis with stone steps beneath.
