Playful Architecture Model
A compact model was constructed with the primary purpose of exploring the interconnections between the different parts of a residence. This model, resembling a kit of parts, offers a playful and creative approach to designing, as each building element can be disassembled and reassembled in various configurations. The model also serves as an investigation into the site, meticulously carved out of raw cardboard to depict the grading that seamlessly integrates the house into the hill it rests upon. Elizabeth Herrmann’s architectural designs emphasize the close relationship between the building and the land, evident in the raw and earthy materials chosen for the model. With all components scaled down, the model is both manageable and conducive to thorough and fun exploration.
